Immediately in the aftermath of the 2018 flood, CRC contributed to the first systematic effort to scientifically map the extent of this devastating disaster. Led by climate scientists and experts at Equinoct Community Sourced Modeling Solutions and with the field support of Civil Engineering undergraduates from SNMIMT college, Paravur, this exercise helped revise flood-based vulnerabilities for Puthenvelikkara.
Today, CRC provides grassroots support for Equinoct’s unique impact-based community-led climate solutions based on real-time data and cutting-edge technologies. Three key data streams are collected through a dedicated volunteer network:
- Rainfall Monitoring: 103 manual rain gauges are maintained across the Chalakudy–Periyar river basins, with volunteers reporting data regularly.
- Groundwater Monitoring: Volunteers track conditions in two critical groundwater sources in Puthenvelikkara.
- River Monitoring: CRC is developing a community-led network to map flood points along the Chalakudy River.
